Angels in the Rearview Mirror

Incredible

You’re the summer of my heart
Daily wonder, gentle star
Flying with me for a dance
That holds forever in a glance

You’re incredible x3
To me

You’re the moment I receive
Laying with you I believe
You’re the mirror that I hold
Ever nearer to my soul

back

Push and Shove

Sugarbear was unaware that in his thoughts and in his stare
He had a pot of gold to mine for someone who was so inclined
Many were the doors that closed before he was yet nine years old
He saw his mother lose her breath to someone she once loved the best

All he knew from love
Was push and shove

Let's give this man a second chance a little room top move advance
He’s not the devil we believe just look back at his history
When he was a little child they said he was a little wild
So teachers put him in a class with all those kids who never pass

Chorus

Push and shove
Push and shove away

Now that he is six foot five I know it’s hard to sympathize
When all you’re hearin’ from his mouth could turn your hearing inside out
But that is just the armor used by someone who has been abused
I hope next time you cross his path you take the time to do the math

back

Said it All

We kept it in our heads
The honesty you meant
Heavy as our hearts
Breakin’ through our guard
We needed you I guess
To affirm address
What we felt inside
Because we could not find a way

You said it all somehow
It crept into your mouth
And when It all sunk in
Elected you the king
You said it all somehow
It crept into your mouth
We listened till the end
But when the song was over
You had gone away

The record seemed to spin
Over your intent
The message took it’s toll
Caught you in a role
You didn’t want to live
For the benefit
Of the heave and ho’s
Who wouldn’t let you go your way

You said it all somehow
It crept into your mouth
We saw you take your wings
But you’ll come back again
You said it all somehow
It crept into your mouth
We listened till the end
But when the song was over
You had gone away

back

Don't Make a Sound

I’m a child
A refugee
Lost in the middle
Of my need
I’m a dove
A broken tree
Put me together
Set me free

I’ll recover in the dark
With you as my mother
Whoever you are

Tonight
Don’t make a sound

When I have the chance to sleep
I pray that you’ll come down next to me
Like an eagle standing guard
Keeping the bombs from
Where we are

I’m just wanting to believe
That there is a heaven
Where I can breath

As I bleed in bed
I believe you shelter me

back

House of Cards

We built a life on our deceit
We took a step without our feet
We raised our children with the lie
And fed them with our empty eyes

For the children we believed
Sacrificing would redeem
All the pain and agony
Of  holding on to broken dreams

So take away this house of cards
Held together by the scars
Let our children finally see
The myth of our good family
This house of...this house of cards

We never wanted this to be
How could history repeat
In every choice in each mistake
We never thought our little ones
hearts would break

So take away this house of cards
Held together by the scars
Let our children finally breathe
Maybe then they won’t repeat
This house of..........this house of cards

I never thought this day would come
When everything would come undone
A thousand tears and alibis
can’t rebuild this house of lies

back

Lost Boys

These good old boys are way too young to wear these bar room crowns
Kings of their own obscurity acting like clowns
When opportunity comes their way they always swerve from the fear
In their own lives they’re MIA when success is near
They disappear because they’re

Lost boys in a loser town
They saddle up but they’re on the ground
Lost boys in a loser town
They’re always here but they can’t be found

Don’t try to shake them right out of it they’ll only make you feel dumb
For calling out the royal guard to sweep away the crumbs
You know they love to celebrate with bitter laughter and cheer
Another artfully dodgy day capped with a beer year after year

Some hope they’ll play their hand one day but they’ve been bluffing so hard
That it was easier to stay holding their cards
Till they turn to shards cuz this joker’s on you because we’re

back

Dead and Done

We built the fort. We built the fence
We made the law. Stop making sense
We left our baggage and took the claim
We sold our image for the fame

I’m dead and done with this x 4

We read our books and poetry
We sank our hooks in morbid themes
We spent our time in our prime
Weeding out the truest crime

Is this the mark that we made
Is this the part that we played
Is this the scene and did we mean
To carry the torch or burn it clean

back

Candle

How often do I try to reach out to
Elusive what could be and what ought to
It’s been so long for me in my own room
What’s real or fantasy, who do I talk to
Anyway?

I wait for a call
You know I do
My candle burns on
You know it’s true

You know it’s true

I thought that it could work as we lay there
Our voices seemed to meet and what did they share
Just moments of relief from the cool air
Before I must leave thinking somewhere
There’s a place

I sift through memories was it just fear
Of losing part of me stripping my gears?
No blame can be assigned I just want to
Give rise to a thought I could cling to
For a day

I wanna
I wanna
I wanna
I wanna play

back

Train

The stars never say hello
No matter how I try to see you in their glow
You are a secret I must hold
No matter how I try I cannot let you go

I try to memorize the way you are
But all that comes to mind is the moment that you stepped upon that

Train
That’s taking you away
The train
That’s taking you away
The train
That’s taking you away
Today

The yard, leaves, a broken rake
No matter how I try I see my own mistake
It’s hard to balance in your wake
No matter how I try I always seem to shake

The scars are welling up with pain
No matter how I try to cover them in vain
The stars I reach for them and pray
No matter how I try I cannot make you stay

back

River

Night at the tollbooth dreader
I don’t feel so good
Count red and white reflectors
Stare into the woods
We wind around the water
As the current moves
Waves rise and fall we’d better
Get through very soon
Before we miss our cue

Someone cut us off and we
Fell into the river
All our hope was lost and we
Barely clung together
Floating in our car we
Had to wonder whether
We would reach the shore or
Would we live together
Would we live forever
Floating in the blue
Laying me and you

Light sparkles in from heaven
Smiling like the moon
Eyelids so soft anf leaden
Sinking like we do
Lungs burning with a fever
Spreading like a flu
Shadows outline your liver
Swollen purple blue
Like a kids balloon

Nothing left to do
Fish eat us for food
As we blend into
The water me and you

back

Dinosaur

Lost in another time
Leaving their bones to find
What could have sealed their fate
How could the earth retake

The dinosaur

Maybe their heavy spine
Lead to their sad decline
Too slow to keep up the pace
Losers in Darwin’s race

The dinosaur

Set in stone

We miss them so we contrive
Buildings that reach the sky
Hoping to recreate
History’s last mistake

The dinosaur

back

Heard from the Birds

Mother needs me when she gets stuck
Father needs me to wish him luck
Brother needs me to build him up
Sister needs me to fill her cup

I heard from the birds
That you were hurt
Told me without words
All that you’re worth
To me

My lover needs me to heal with my touch
They’ve beseeched me to break my crutch
I’m deceiving them way too much
Always leaving when times get tough

I heard from the birds
That your were spurned
Told me with concern
All you deserve
From me

Grandfather sees me from way up above
Grandmother feels me when I send my love
hildren reach me with how they trust
Babies teach me to open up

I heard from the birds
Of your rebirth
Told me without words
That you’d returned to me

Angels in the Rearview Mirror

He knew his pride was the place he could hide like a mother of lies that he clung to
He blew his life on a moments respite, clutching on to the pipe what a dumb fool

Something keeps him down
He’s on his back now

He knew he’d die from a slow suicide in the back of his mind there was one truth
He stood inside, for a moment he cried then he turned out the light

He got into his car and drove into the dark
Leaving all the hopeless years
With hands he could not feel he gripped on to the wheel
His choices never seemed so clear
With thoughts igniting fear bouncing ear to ear
As the voices seemed to draw him near
And though he’s full of dread he’s looking straight ahead
And there’s angels in the rear view mirror

Something took his life
He’s gotta make right

She knew the signs when he’d come home at night in a rage set to fight nowhere to run to
She learned in time that the bruises subside but the aching inside never seemed to

Something keeps her down
She’s on her back now

She knew she’d die just a matter of time
Till the light in her eyes ceased to come through
She took a knife while he slept at her side
The she turned out the light

She got into her car and drove into the dark
Leaving all the hopeless years
With hands made out of steel she gripped on to the wheel
Her choices never seemed so clear
With thoughts igniting fear bouncing ear to ear
As the voices seemed to draw her near
And though she’s full of dread she’s looking straight ahead
And there’s angels in the rear view mirror

Someone took her life
She’s got it back now

Hold on to me
I cannot sleep
